Fans at Bruce Springsteen's concert at Montreal's Bell Centre were in for a Halloween treat last night (October 31). The Boss and his E Street Band walked out to the instrumental intro to Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbuster."
“Hello, Montreal! Bonsoir!” Springsteen greeted the audience, as Max Weinberg tapped his drum sticks and the band dove into their own cover of the famous movie theme song, horns and all. Then Springsteen sang the iconic lyrics, “If there’s something strange in your neighborhood/ Who you gonna call?"
He then held out the mic so the crowd could respond with “Ghostbusters!”
The show was the kickoff to Springsteen's fall Canada tour, which runs through November 22. Watch fan-shot footage of the cover below.
Earlier this week, Springsteen revealed that he's not in fact a billionaire despite Forbes' recently reporting his net worth to be around $1.1 billion.
“I’m not a billionaire. I wish I was, but they got that real wrong," he said in a recent interview. "I’ve spent too much money on superfluous things.”
The beloved singer-songwriter, who became the voice of the working class after releasing his 1975 breakout album Born to Run, admitted in his memoir that he didn't enter a place of financial stability until the early '80s. During the interview, Springsteen explained that the financial "good fortune" came from “put[ting] the work in.” He also warned that when a musician's only goal is money, “that’s usually where people go south.” For him, the music and art come first. “If I had failed at that, I would have failed at everything, in my opinion,” Springsteen said.
